We are deeply honored to receive the 2023 Plečnik Medal for the 16-unit timber kindergarten in Kočevje, built on brownfield land.
The project consolidates scattered programs into a unified, warm, and fragrant learning environment that regenerates part of the town. Designed as a playful landscape, it includes a rooftop playground, atriums, nooks, tunnels, and inhabitable windows that invite imagination. The building fosters a strong, caring community and offers varied spaces to support every child's growth. Kočevje Kindergarten aims to raise empathetic, spatially aware children who will one day value quality architecture and help shape a more thoughtful public realm.
This nearly five-year journey from competition to realization has been a profound and rewarding collaboration, made possible by the dedication of an exceptional project and competition team.
